Booking Terms & House Policies
Last updated:
Welcome to The Lazy Tiger! We're a small, social hostel built for travelers. Our guiding rule is simple: treat other people, their belongings, and our space with care.
Please read these terms before making a reservation. By booking directly with us, you agree to these terms and to share the house policies with everyone in your reservation.
These terms cover direct reservations for hostel accommodations and car camping at The Lazy Tiger, operated by Appleton Hospitality LLC. Whole-house rentals are subject to a separate agreement.
Who can stay
- All overnight guests must be at least 18 years old. There is no maximum age.
- We host travelers and do not accept guests who live within 30 miles of the hostel unless management approves an exception before booking.
- The maximum stay is seven nights.
- You must be staying as part of the reservation you make. Reservations made solely on behalf of someone else are not permitted.
- Every guest must present valid government-issued photo identification. Each reservation must have a valid credit or debit card on file in the name of someone staying in the party, matching that person's ID.
- Only registered guests may stay overnight. Please book for the correct number of people.
Please contact us before booking if you are unsure whether you meet these requirements. A reservation does not override our check-in requirements.
Reservations and payment
For hostel accommodations, a 50% deposit is required when booking. Reservations made within seven days of arrival require full payment when booking. Any remaining balance is charged to the card on file on the day of check-in.
Your reservation confirmation shows your accommodation, dates, guest count, and booking charges. Please review it and contact us promptly if anything is incorrect.
Special requests are subject to availability and are only guaranteed if we expressly confirm them.
Car camping has separate payment and cancellation conditions, listed below.
Cancellations, no-shows, and shortened stays
You may cancel or request changes by emailing info@lazytigerhostel.com or calling (828) 782-3157. Please provide the name on the reservation and your arrival date.
| Accommodation | Cancellation deadline |
|---|---|
| Dorm beds | 3:00 PM Eastern, two days before arrival |
| Private rooms | 3:00 PM Eastern, seven days before arrival |
Cancellations received before the applicable deadline are refundable, minus a processing fee equal to 4% of the amount otherwise due back to you.
Removing nights from a reservation counts as canceling those nights and follows the same deadline. An eligible adjustment may be handled through a refund or a reduction in the remaining balance. The 4% processing fee applies to any money refunded.
Cancellations after the deadline, no-shows, and early departures are charged the full reservation amount and receive no refund for unused nights. Any unpaid balance may be charged to the card on file. Paying a deposit does not limit your responsibility to the deposit amount.
Weather, illness, transportation delays, canceled events, and other changes in personal travel plans follow the same cancellation policy. Management may make exceptions at its discretion.
If we cannot provide your booked stay because the facility or your accommodation becomes unavailable, we will refund all payments for that booking in full, without deducting a processing fee.
Check-in and checkout
Check-in is 3:00–9:00 PM. Checkout is by 11:00 AM. All times are Eastern.
Late arrival is available only by exception and must be requested and approved in advance. Please do not assume you can check in after 9:00 PM without an approved arrangement. A $20 late-check-in fee may apply.
Early check-in and late checkout are subject to availability and management approval. A $20 late-checkout fee may apply.
Once checked in, guests have no curfew. Please enter and leave quietly during quiet hours.
Sharing the space
Quiet hours are midnight–8:00 AM. Keep conversations, music, calls, alarms, and packing noise low so others can sleep.
Clean up after yourself in bedrooms, bathrooms, the kitchen, and other shared spaces. Wash your dishes, label and date your food and drinks, and respect anything belonging to someone else.
Use your assigned bed. Ask staff before moving to another bed; a $20 housekeeping fee may apply to a guest-requested bed change.
Outside linens, bedding, sleeping bags, and pillows are not permitted in hostel accommodations. Please ask us if you need extra bedding.
Do not share access codes or keys with anyone outside your reservation.
Visitors
Visitors require staff permission and may visit common areas until 9:00 PM. They may not enter bedrooms or stay overnight.
You are responsible for making sure your visitors follow the house rules. We may ask a visitor to leave at any time for violating those rules. A serious violation by your visitor may also result in your stay being ended without a refund.
Smoking, alcohol, drugs, and weapons
Smoking and vaping are not allowed anywhere inside the hostel, including guest rooms. Please use the designated outdoor smoking area.
Guests must be 21 or older to drink alcohol on the property. We may check identification at any time. Alcohol must be labeled with your name and dated.
Illegal drugs and illegal drug activity are prohibited. The use of alcohol, THC products, or any other substance must not cause disruptive behavior, compromise safety, or interfere with another guest's stay. This applies whether the substance is legal or not.
Weapons are not allowed on the property, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
Pets and service animals
Pets are not permitted inside the hostel. Our house dog, Chloe, stays out of guest bedrooms. Car camping has a separate pet policy, listed below.
We welcome service animals protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act and applicable North Carolina law. Under the ADA, a service dog is individually trained to perform work or tasks directly related to a person's disability. Animals whose only role is emotional support, comfort, or companionship do not qualify as service animals under the ADA and are not permitted under our hostel pet policy.
An online registration, certificate, identification card, or vest does not by itself establish that an animal is a service animal. We do not require service-animal certification or registration. Where permitted by law, staff may ask whether the animal is required because of a disability and what work or task it has been trained to perform.
Service animals must be housebroken and under their handler's control. They may not be left unattended at the hostel. We may require removal of an animal as permitted by law, including when it is not housebroken or is out of control and its handler does not take effective action.
There is no pet fee for a service animal. Actual damage may be charged on the same basis as damage caused by other guests.
Safety, respect, and ending a stay
Harassment, discrimination, threats, violence, theft, tampering with another person's belongings, and unsafe or seriously disruptive behavior are not permitted. Taking another guest's food or drink counts as taking their belongings.
We may refuse check-in or end a stay for failure to meet booking requirements, nonpayment, serious or repeated policy violations, or behavior that threatens safety or interferes with other guests' stays, subject to applicable law.
Serious violations may result in removal without a refund. We may contact law enforcement when appropriate.
Management may waive a fee or make an exception based on the circumstances. An exception does not change the policy for other situations.
Damage, missing items, and additional charges
You are responsible for damage, missing hostel property, and excessive cleaning caused by you or members of your reservation.
We may charge the card on file for reasonable repair, replacement, or additional cleaning costs. Charges are assessed case by case.
- A $10 fee may apply for a lost key.
- A $20 fee may apply for late check-in.
- A $20 fee may apply for late checkout.
- A $20 housekeeping fee may apply for a guest-requested bed change.
If a disturbance you cause results in us refunding another guest's accommodation, we may charge you for the actual accommodation refund reasonably attributable to that disturbance.
By accepting these terms, you authorize charges to your card on file for amounts owed under these terms. We will provide an explanation of additional charges upon request.
Belongings and security cameras
Please keep valuables secured and use the available lockers. You are responsible for keeping track of your belongings. Any responsibility we have for lost, stolen, or damaged property is governed by applicable law.
Security cameras monitor the front entrance and parking area. There are no cameras in bedrooms or bathrooms.
Car camping — separate booking conditions
Car camping is paid in full when booked and is nonrefundable. The deposit and refundable cancellation deadlines for hostel accommodations do not apply to car camping. If we cannot provide your booked camping stay, we will refund your payment in full.
Your vehicle and entire setup must fit within one standard parking space. RVs, oversized vehicles, trailers, tow-behind campers, and ground tents are not permitted. There are no electrical or water hookups, and generators are not allowed.
One pet dog is permitted with a car-camping reservation. Your dog must remain leashed, may not be left unattended in the vehicle, and is not permitted inside the hostel. The service-animal provisions above still apply.
Include your vehicle's make, model, approximate length, and whether you are bringing a dog when booking. Contact us before booking if you are unsure whether your setup qualifies.
Check-in, checkout, quiet hours, eligibility requirements, and the general conduct and damage policies above apply to car camping. The outside-bedding restriction applies only to hostel accommodations.
