Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Hostel?

A hostel is basically a hotel with more shared space. We feature guest rooms (either dorm-style with bunk beds or private rooms), a shared kitchen, and open common areas to allow for meeting new friends and exchanging stories. We offer a unique travel experience while allowing you to save money normally spent on expensive lodging for new adventures around town instead.

Never stayed in a hostel? Feel free to give us a call and we will be happy to discuss any questions or curiosities you may have.

But aren't hostels gross and scary?

No! Or…they don’t have to be! We don’t care how little you are paying per night, we vow to never cut corners on security or cleanliness.

And yes…we’re familiar with the movie. Sure, it’s terrifying and entertaining, but not necessarily realistic.

When can I check-in/check-out?

Check-in hours are from 3 pm-10 pm. Check-out is at 11 am. If flexible hours are needed, reach out to us and we will try to accommodate.

What is the minimum age?

We require all guests to be 18 or over with a valid government ID. If you have children, unfortunately, they can’t stay with us. We do hope they celebrate their 18th birthday at The Lazy Tiger!

Do you serve breakfast?

Yes, there is a self-serve breakfast offered every morning, consisting of locally-roasted coffee and/or tea, cereal, oatmeal, and eggs available for guests to cook at their own leisure.

Are there laundry facilities available?

At this time, we don’t have the capabilities to provide guest laundry services. There is a great and affordable laundromat just down the street from us.

Are lockers provided?

There are some larger lockers in rooms available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We also have smaller lockers idea for electronics/valuables in the common area downstairs.

What is the cancellation policy?

We understand travel plans can change. As long as you contact us 48 hours prior to check-in, we will offer a full refund. Otherwise, you will be charged for the first night of your stay. Alternatively, we will be happy to offer a hassle-free reservation change if you just want to reschedule.

Do you have long-term storage for hikers?

Of course. We realize many people come to Asheville as a launching pad to explore the beautiful mountains close to town. If you plan to go on a multi-day hike, take what you need with you, and leave the rest in our secure storage room, where it will be happily waiting for you upon your return.

I'm a thru-hiker. Can I send a care package?

Yep! Just send it to our address, c/o your name, and include your estimated arrival date. No perishables, please.

Any special restrictions on weekends?

Yes, during high season (May-October), we have a 2-night minimum for any bookings on Friday or Saturday nights.
