What this is

A Practical Stop Between the Road and the Mountains

This is not a campground or an RV park. It is one standard parking space at a friendly Asheville hostel for travelers who sleep in their car or van and would rather start the morning with a real shower and a good cup of coffee.

We are on Asheville's north side, close to Woodfin and a short drive from downtown. It works especially well as a base for people spending their days hiking, riding the Parkway, chasing waterfalls, or exploring western North Carolina.

Car camping is never automatically bookable. Send us your dates and vehicle details first; we will confirm the space before taking a deposit.

Worth the drive

Wake Up and Pick a Direction

The advantage of arriving in your own vehicle is that Asheville's best day trips are already within reach.

Blue Ridge Parkway

Choose an overlook, a short trail, or a long ridgeline drive. Conditions can change, so check the National Park Service road status before leaving.

Check Parkway status

Pisgah & Looking Glass Falls

Drive US-276 through Pisgah National Forest for roadside waterfalls, forest stops, and access to Brevard.

Hot Springs

Follow the winding roads north for a small mountain town on the French Broad River and Appalachian Trail.

Downtown & the River

Keep the day close to home with downtown Asheville, the River Arts District, or the French Broad River greenway.

Car Camping Questions

Is this a campground?

No. It is a standard parking space in The Lazy Tiger's off-street gravel lot, with access to the hostel's facilities. There are no hookups, dedicated campsites, or room for outdoor tent setups.

Can I just show up?

No. Every car camping stay must be arranged in advance. We need to confirm that a parking space is available and that your vehicle fits before accepting a deposit.

What does the $30 include?

The base rate covers one vehicle and one or two people for one night. It includes 24-hour bathroom and shower access, self-serve breakfast and coffee, and use of the shared kitchen. Each person beyond the first two adds $30 per night.

What if my van is converted for sleeping?

Conversion vans are fine as long as the vehicle fits completely within a standard parking spot. Rooftop pop-ups are also welcome. We cannot accommodate RVs, oversized rigs, trailers, or anything tow-behind.

Decided you would rather sleep indoors?

Our bunks and private rooms can be checked and booked through the regular reservation page.
