Who We Are

Our Story

Have you ever met strangers who felt like close friends? Ever been on vacation and truly been
able to forget about the real world for a while? Those feelings inspired the creation of The Lazy Tiger.

Our founder Ryan was in the 5th month of a sabbatical from work, traveling through South America to get
away for a while and figure out what was next when the idea struck him. Corporate life had treated him well, but the work wasn’t fulfilling, and he thought there had to be something more. Not knowing exactly what that something was, he took a break and bought a one-way ticket to Chile.

There were times when Ryan had considered opening a hostel eventually, but it wasn’t until he arrived in the adventure town of Pucón, and checked into the Chili Kiwi Hostel, that he realized hospitality was his calling. Chili Kiwi was a perfect example of the positive impact a hostel can have on its guest and proved how vast the difference could be between a well-run hostel and an average one.

Inspired and motivated, Ryan spent the last 4 months of his trip traveling to 25+ hostels in 4 countries,
hand-picking features and ideas from every stop, taking note of what worked and what didn’t. The Lazy Tiger is the result of all that work.

“May all those who come as guests leave as friends.”
